> What changed in Tesser, one CLI release at a time

Each entry is a released version of the `tesser` CLI. Changes to boxes, billing, and the control plane are listed under the first release that followed them.

**v0.73.0**

November 7, 2026

* `tesser cloud connect --tag key=value` adds your own tags to the instances Tesser launches in a self-hosted org's account. See [Your own tags](https://tesser.sh/docs/self-hosting-reference.md#your-own-tags).
* Members of a self-hosted org can `tesser ssh` to its microVM boxes through a port the host forwards to each box. See [`tesser ssh`](https://tesser.sh/docs/cli-reference#tesser-ssh).
* A service with `box_address = true` sees its box's address as `Host` and `Origin`, so the app can use `http://$TESSER_BOX_HOST:<port>` as its one URL. See [The daemon](https://tesser.sh/docs/reference/localhost.md#the-daemon).
* On a workbench, `tesser exec` and a command line given to `tesser ssh` get its services' committed `[env] load` values. See [Loading env files](https://tesser.sh/docs/manifest.md#loading-env-files).
* `tesser ls` shows a dev run that is held for its dependencies as waiting for them to be healthy. See [`tesser ls`](https://tesser.sh/docs/cli-reference#tesser-ls).
* `tesser snapshot create` on a commit off the default branch says which boxes will start from the new snapshot. See [`tesser snapshot create`](https://tesser.sh/docs/cli-reference#tesser-snapshot-create).
* When a command given to `tesser ssh` fails on a local file the box does not have, the CLI says to sync first or shows how to copy the file to the box. See [`tesser ssh`](https://tesser.sh/docs/cli-reference#tesser-ssh).
* A box launch cut off by a Tesser deploy is retried with the same request instead of failing.
* Setup no longer reruns after every reboot on a box only because Docker is running.
* The setup guide pins an app that keeps its state on local disk, such as SQLite, alone without an infra box, and sends uploads to object storage. See [Put a repo on Tesser](https://tesser.sh/docs/setup.md).

**v0.72.0**

November 6, 2026

* New hosted boxes run as microVMs on Tesser's hosts, and on their own EC2 instance when no host has room or the CLI is too old to reach a microVM. See [Sleep and wake on a microVM](https://tesser.sh/docs/reference/boxes.md#sleep-and-wake-on-a-microvm).
* A self-hosted org can run its boxes as microVMs on r8a.metal-24xl hosts in its own account with `tesser cloud connect --fleet`, and the dashboard's usage view counts the hosts' AWS spend by host hours. `tesser ssh` to these boxes needs CLI v0.72.0. See [`tesser cloud connect`](https://tesser.sh/docs/cli-reference#tesser-cloud-connect).
* Boxes run on m8a instances instead of m7a, and connect checks that the subnet's zone offers m8a. See [What connect checks](https://tesser.sh/docs/self-hosting-reference.md#what-connect-checks).
* A command line given to `tesser ssh` reads stdin as a pipe, so a script with quotes can go in a heredoc. See [`tesser ssh`](https://tesser.sh/docs/cli-reference#tesser-ssh).
* When a wait for a dev server times out, the hint says to run `tesser wait <box_id> --timeout 9m` again while it reports progress. See [`tesser wait`](https://tesser.sh/docs/cli-reference#tesser-wait).

**v0.71.1**

November 5, 2026

* Grants last until `tesser grant rm` unless made with an expiry, `tesser grant ls` shows each grant's last use, and new GitHub grants must pin a branch or `*`. See [Grants](https://tesser.sh/docs/reference/access.md#grants).
* `tesser dev` starts faster: box readiness arrives over a websocket, and apt packages install beside the sync.
* `tesser dev` says when a run's log goes quiet while it waits. See [While `tesser dev` waits](https://tesser.sh/docs/reference/services#while-tesser-dev-waits).

**v0.71.0**

November 5, 2026

* `tesser ssh --new` makes a workbench and opens a shell on it. See [`tesser ssh`](https://tesser.sh/docs/cli-reference#tesser-ssh).
* Syncing to a box with a clean snapshot skips git delivery.

**v0.70.0**

November 5, 2026

* `tesser dev` says when the same log line keeps repeating. See [While `tesser dev` waits](https://tesser.sh/docs/reference/services#while-tesser-dev-waits).

**v0.69.0**

November 4, 2026

* `[env] load` files reach every shell on the box and the command line given to `tesser ssh`. See [Loading env files](https://tesser.sh/docs/manifest.md#loading-env-files).
* `tesser dev` names the busy process while nothing serves, a dependency that stopped serving, and a snapshot build in flight. See [While `tesser dev` waits](https://tesser.sh/docs/reference/services#while-tesser-dev-waits).
* `tesser wire --json` prints wires as JSON. See [`tesser wire`](https://tesser.sh/docs/reference/services#tesser-wire).
* `tesser snapshot create` shows an estimate of how long the build will take. See [Snapshots](https://tesser.sh/docs/reference/boxes.md#snapshots).

**v0.68.0**

November 3, 2026

* `tesser exec` survives a dropped SSH connection. See [`tesser ssh` and `tesser exec`](https://tesser.sh/docs/reference/boxes#tesser-ssh-and-tesser-exec).
* `tesser dev a b` wires each service's dependencies to the services it started.
* Snapshot builds get `[env] load` files. See [Loading env files](https://tesser.sh/docs/manifest.md#loading-env-files).

**v0.67.1**

November 3, 2026

* The CLI updates itself in the background once a day when it was installed with the install script. See [Automatic updates](https://tesser.sh/docs/install.md#automatic-updates).

**v0.67.0**

November 3, 2026

* The daemon moved off port 3000 to 7678, so it no longer collides with your own dev server. See [Ports on the laptop](https://tesser.sh/docs/config.md#ports-on-the-laptop).
* `[env] load` reads dotenv files into `setup`, `dev`, and `exec`, and `tesser dev` restarts when one of those files changes. See [Loading env files](https://tesser.sh/docs/manifest.md#loading-env-files).
* `tesser dev a b` starts several services at once in dependency order. See [`tesser dev`](https://tesser.sh/docs/cli-reference#tesser-dev).
* A glob starting with `!` in `run.setup_inputs` leaves paths out. See [Skipping setup](https://tesser.sh/docs/manifest.md#skipping-setup).
* `tesser util` with no box id covers the whole org, one row per service and size. See [`tesser util`](https://tesser.sh/docs/reference/boxes#tesser-util).

**v0.66.0**

November 2, 2026

* A dependency with no wire and no shared instance reaches your own dev box of that service from the same worktree. See [Your own box from the same worktree](https://tesser.sh/docs/reference/services.md#your-own-box-from-the-same-worktree).

**v0.65.1**

November 2, 2026

* `tesser status`, `tesser logs`, and `tesser sync` take a service name instead of a box id. See [A service name instead of a box id](https://tesser.sh/docs/reference/services.md#a-service-name-instead-of-a-box-id).
* `tesser make --ensure-running` turns your worktree's own box of the service into the shared instance, keeping its warm build. See [`make --ensure-running`](https://tesser.sh/docs/reference/services#make---ensure-running).

**v0.64.0**

November 2, 2026

* `run.setup_inputs` lets a box skip `setup` while the files it reads are unchanged. See [Skipping setup](https://tesser.sh/docs/manifest.md#skipping-setup).
* `tesser status` shows which snapshot a box has. See [Seeing which snapshot a box has](https://tesser.sh/docs/reference/boxes.md#seeing-which-snapshot-a-box-has).

**v0.63.0**

November 2, 2026

* `tesser help setup` prints the setup guide for an agent. See [Put a repo on Tesser](https://tesser.sh/docs/setup.md).

**v0.62.0**

November 2, 2026

* `tesser service show` prints a service's shared instance. See [`tesser service show`](https://tesser.sh/docs/reference/services#tesser-service-show).
* When less than two hours of credit or spend limit is left, `make`, `dev`, `status`, and `sync` print a warning on stderr. An out-of-credit box returns a 402 instead of a retryable 503. See [Credit](https://tesser.sh/docs/reference/boxes.md#credit).

**v0.61.0**

November 2, 2026

* Members can open the org's shared boxes on `box-<id>.localhost` without a review link. See [Box addresses](https://tesser.sh/docs/reference/localhost.md#box-addresses).
* The first org you create starts on Hobby with \$5 of credit. See [Credit](https://tesser.sh/docs/reference/boxes.md#credit).
* [tesser.sh/auth.md](https://tesser.sh/auth.md) explains sign-in for agents.
* The install script puts `tesser` on the PATH for later GitHub Actions steps. See [Install](https://tesser.sh/docs/install.md#install).

**v0.59.0**

October 31, 2026

* A coding agent that names a box you did not make is refused `rm`, `sync`, `exec`, `dev`, `keep`, and other changing commands unless it passes `--yes`. See [Commands an agent is refused](https://tesser.sh/docs/reference/access.md#commands-an-agent-is-refused).
* `tesser wait` waits for a box's dev run to be ready. See [`tesser wait`](https://tesser.sh/docs/cli-reference#tesser-wait).
* `tesser rm` removes several boxes at once. See [`tesser rm`](https://tesser.sh/docs/cli-reference#tesser-rm).
* `tesser exec` and `tesser ssh` set `TESSER_*` variables such as `TESSER_SLOT` on the box.
* Boxes run the Node version your repo pins. See [The box](https://tesser.sh/docs/config.md#the-box).
* `tesser dev` restarts when the service's dev script changes, and says when it did not.
* Services are available on every plan. See [Plan limits](https://tesser.sh/docs/reference/boxes.md#plan-limits).
* Box disks are faster.

**v0.58.0**

October 28, 2026

* `tesser dev` builds a missing repo snapshot. See [Automatic builds from `tesser dev`](https://tesser.sh/docs/reference/boxes#automatic-builds-from-tesser-dev).
* `tesser login` works for agents. See [`tesser login`](https://tesser.sh/docs/cli-reference#tesser-login).
* Every usage rate was halved. See the [pricing page](https://tesser.sh/pricing).

**v0.57.0**

October 28, 2026

* `tesser dev --snapshot` builds a repo snapshot. See [Building one](https://tesser.sh/docs/reference/boxes.md#building-one).

**v0.56.4**

October 27, 2026

* Sleep is now hibernation: memory goes to disk, and on wake processes carry on where they stopped. See [What survives sleep](https://tesser.sh/docs/reference/boxes.md#what-survives-sleep).

**v0.56.0**

October 27, 2026

* Repo snapshots give new boxes your repository and installed dependencies. See [Snapshots](https://tesser.sh/docs/reference/boxes.md#snapshots).
* Dependencies wake with the boxes that use them and stay up while those boxes are in use. See [What counts as idle](https://tesser.sh/docs/reference/boxes.md#what-counts-as-idle).

**v0.54.0**

October 27, 2026

* The CLI prints box addresses as `box-<id>.localhost`, a hostname browsers' content security policies accept. See [Box addresses](https://tesser.sh/docs/reference/localhost.md#box-addresses).
* `tesser dev` and `tesser sync --restart` wait for the `[health]` check before returning.
* A box woken from the browser stays awake, and its page says when the wake ends. See [Sleep and wake](https://tesser.sh/docs/reference/boxes.md#sleep-and-wake).
* Only a person opening a shared box in a browser wakes it. Scripts get a 503. See [What viewers get](https://tesser.sh/docs/share-gateway.md#what-viewers-get).
* `tesser dev` on a pool box starts sooner.

**v0.53.1**

October 23, 2026

* `tesser ssh` reuses its connection, so later commands connect faster.

**v0.53.0**

October 22, 2026

* Seeding a new box is faster.

**v0.52.1**

October 21, 2026

* Sign-up is open to everyone, with no private beta.
* Shared boxes open at `https://box-<id>.tesser.review/` for the org's members. See [Share gateway](https://tesser.sh/docs/share-gateway.md).

**v0.52.0**

October 20, 2026

* `tesser login` opens one simple card for naming your first org and authorizing the CLI, and admins can rename the org. See [Orgs](https://tesser.sh/docs/reference/access.md#orgs).
* Localhost links in a shared box's pages are rewritten to the box. See [Share gateway](https://tesser.sh/docs/share-gateway.md).
